Ways to support local charities this Christmas (without breaking the bank)
Here at Henry Orchard, we are keen to support local charities, but equally, it is an expensive time of year. And, with the cost of living crisis, the challenge of helping local not-for-profit organisations is harder than ever.
Here are a few suggestions of ways you can help, without leaving yourself short for the festive season.
Do the Cornwall Hospice Care Santa Cycle (pictured above)
You may have heard of the Santa Run? This year you can join the Santa Cycle event which starts at Bridge Bike Hire in Wadebridge on 4th December. Registration starts at 9:30am and cyclist Santa’s will set off along the beautiful (and flat!) Camel Trail for a 5.5 mile stretch into Padstow. Adults need to raise or donate £13.00 and children £7.50 for Cornwall Hospice Care. Arrive early to book a bike!

Do some Christmas shopping at the Cornwall Air Ambulance coastal Christmas market
Enjoy live music, a Santa grotto and find unique artisan gifts that will support local craftworkers and artists as well as Cornwall’s amazing Air Ambulance service at the coastal Christmas market. It takes place this year on 3rd, 4th & 10th, 11th of December 2022. 12 noon – 6pm. This is a FREE EVENT open to all with free parking & entry. Address: The Promenade, Carbis Bay Beach, Carbis Bay, St Ives.

Do your own scrap metal collection
One way local fundraisers have supported their charities of choice is by collecting scrap metal from friends, trading it in here at Henry Orchard and donating the money raised to support their favourite cause. If you’d like some inspiration, see this story about Peter Sweet, who, over the years has raised over £44,000 to support the Children’s Hospice South West by doing exactly this. https://www.chsw.org.uk/news/scrap-metal-leads-to-heaps-of-donations
Buy & send charity Christmas cards
It’s a popular thing to do, but if you’re buying cards to let people in your life know you’re thinking of them and want to keep in touch this year, you can support a charity at the same time.
